Lucky James Biography

J.P. Delanoye has played the Blues, both acoustic and electric, from New Orleans streetcorners to New York City clubs, for over thirty years. With Ben Ross, the "Harmonica Boss", a Kerouac-ian character and Detroit bluesman, J.P. founded the Uptown Lowdown Blues Hounds, who played throughout the Northeast in the 80's. An enthusiast and student of various styles of "roots" music, he has also been involved with folk, reggae, west African, swing, bluegrass, and other musical explorations over the years, but the blues have been closest to his heart. Based in western North Carolina since 1992, he has played clubs and festivals all over the Southeast, both as a solo act and with JP & The Mojo Workers. JP has opened for many national artists, including Delbert McClinton, Koko Taylor, John Hammond Jr., Magic Slim, John Mooney, Leon Russell, Coco Montoya, Doc Watson, the North Mississippi All-Stars, Junior Brown, Jefferson Starship and Beausoleil, and has been a guest on numerous recording projects. He was a founding member of the Ghost Mountain band in 1998, and they have since played thousands of dates in a wide variety of venues. With influences from Chicago to New Orleans, from the Piedmont to the Delta, J.P. is a versatile and powerful performer on guitar, resonator slide guitar, lap steel, harmonica and vocals. J.P. is currently working in his home studio on a solo album to be released later in 2023, and looking forward to spring and summer performances.
